A tipster is a person who regularly gives out information on the possible results of sporting events, particularly on specific betting venues or internet websites. In sports betting circles this term is loosely applied to a person who provides information to help fellow bettors come up with money management strategies or picks which can be used in place of gambling with real money. The term tipster has also been used to refer to the person who actually provides the picks - but they are not necessarily made by a tipster. For instance, some people may subscribe to an email newsletter that is sent out by a person called a guru. Both tipster and guru are commonly used in the sports betting world.
